The times when sneakers were shamefacedly hidden in sports halls and gym bags are over. This casual footwear has left behind its default images of “sporty” or “cool”, and is enjoying a sensational revival. Be they classic lace-ups, ankle-hugging high-tops or slip-ons, sneakers have turned the spotlight on comfort. The former sports shoes now show they can be stylish and elegant too – especially as premium models with welted seams.
Sneakers in LLOYD’s 1888 Collection are produced using the high-quality Goodyear Welted technique, and combine the popular sporty style of classic sneakers with the quality of painstakingly hand-crafted footwear. The difference is clear to see – and, in the case of the wearer, to feel. The cushioning cork filling between insole and outsole in these styles creates an exceptionally comfortable fit and a shoe that adapts perfectly to the foot.
Sneakers can be found in a wide range of materials, which require individual care. While heavily soiled fabric shoes can be machine-washed, this may damage leather sneakers. It’s best to use tried-and-tested methods; a suitable shoe cream and horsehair polish brush will help to keep leather sneakers looking their best for years. Light-coloured textile shoelaces can be cleaned by removing them and washing with normal detergent.
