The shoes in our 1888 Collection– Die Manufaktur are a living tribute to the fine art of shoemaking – and the LLOYD brand itself. This is where tradition meets unique design, top-quality materials and professional craftsmanship with a love and appreciation of the craft that extends into the smallest detail. The 1888 Collection is the result of over a century of experience in shoe production, combined with a contemporary aesthetic that places these styles firmly in the twenty-first century. Luxury for your feet, made in Germany – the unmistakable feeling of a LLOYD 1888.
Did you know that a shoemaker has to perform over 300 different production steps to complete a shoe for the 1888 Collection? The Goodyear Welted technique is one of the oldest and most demanding seaming methods of the shoemaker’s art. It has numerous advantages; not only does a welted seam offer peerless durability and breathability, which ensures greater comfort in wear, but welted shoes are also easier to repair and can quickly be resoled to prolong the life of the shoe.
But no production method will deliver the right result unless the material itself is right; the durability, comfort and good looks of a shoe depend critically on the raw materials chosen. Aware of this importance, we select only the softest high-quality leathers – be they calfskin nubuck, suede or smooth leather – for LLOYD 1888 shoes. All our leather soles are sourced from Rendenbach, a traditional company located in Germany’s Palatinate region, while the rubber for our hand-moulded soles comes from a small factory in the South of France. Thanks to this meticulous selection of materials, the styles in the 1888 Collection are exceptionally abrasion-resistant, waterproof and skin-tolerant and offer outstanding comfort that makes every step a pleasure.
